JENNIFER LOPEZ BIOGRAPHY: A GLANCE AT J LO HISTORY AND AWARDS

Jennifer Lopez was born on July 24, 1970 in New York City, NY. She is the middle of three daughters of a computer operating father and a kindergarten teaching mother coming from Puerto Rico to New York.

Jennifer Lopez's first love is for dance, and at the age of 7, she went on her first tour around New York with her dance class. A bit part in the film "My Little Girl" when she was 16 (starring Mary Stuart Masterson) did not change her pursuit, which led to a fall out with her mother as she did not want her to be a dancer.

Jennifer Lopez then landed a role dancing as a Fly Girl for the show "In Living Color", where she is suggested by a co-worker for a part in a Fox's series, "The South Central" her first television job as an actress. "South Central only survived one season, followed by 2 other short lived series, "Second Chances" and "Hotel Malibu".

In 1995 she jumped onto the big screen with her first major role in "Money Train" with Woody Harrelson and Wesley Snipes. It was her work with Gregory Nava, who directed her in "Mi Familia" that led her to the role in "Selena" that would make her a star.
